Description
- The blind poet Homer
- oil on canvas
- 35 7/8 by 28 7/8 in.; 89.9 by 72.1 cm.
Condition
The canvas has an old relining. Generally this work is in fresh condition and has an older, slightly yellowed varnish which is even throughout. UV light reveals only a few scattered retouches including a line running about 10 inches from the violin to the sitters chest. This is likely a repaired old scratch. There is a grouping of old scattered retouches at the bottom edge of the canvas. These are almost certainly from older frame abrasion. The picture would likely benefit from a light clean and fresh varnish, and has retained the vast majority of its original detailing and impasto. In a carved giltwood frame.
