Description
- inkstone 13.5 cm, 5 1/4 in.box 14.9 cm, 5 7/8 in.
the inkstone well carved from a block of wood in the form of a recumbent water buffalo with its head turned backwards towards the concave inkwell, all applied with a coating of black lacquer, the original black lacquer box and cover correspondingly shaped with the cover depicting a similar recumbent water buffalo, traces of gilding on the cover of the box
Condition
The inkstone: overall good condition The lacquered box and cover: Cover: a few small areas of flakes to the side and mouthrim of the cover. Box: a few lacquer flakes to the mouthrim as well as edge of bottom of box. A metal plate is added on the exterior wall of box as a reinforcement to the corresponding crack and associated age crack along the joint of wall and bottom.
