Catalogue Note
Born in Japan, Tomoko Yoneda is a transnational artist currently living and working in London. Her pursuit of both journalism and photographic studies in the US and UK has led her to rigorously explore social histories, as well as to create imagery that emphasizes the dichotomy between the objective and subjective. As part of her Topological Analogies series, the current piece was taken in 1996 featuring East London buildings that were scheduled to be demolished. Capturing stains and peeled wallpaper from the city's walls, Yoneda's photographs document the invisible traces of human presence and the warmth of the vacated homes.
