In the One and One series, Nasseri flattens the geometric patterns of muqarnas—an Islamic honeycomb design traditionally found on💟 the undersides of domes—into mesmerizing drawings. Each composition begins from a central point, expanding infinitely in intricate combinations that, from a distance, resemble constellations. Rendered in white ink on black paper, these meticulously hand-drawn works require weeks to complete, using only a compass and ruler.
Rooted in a 10th-century architectural tradition, the drawings are based on four triangles with a shared side length, allowing endless variat༺ions in pattern. Though confin꧋ed by the paper’s edges, they evoke a sense of limitless space. Formulas and numbers along the lines indicate proportions and angles, adding a mathematical dimension to the visual rhythm. Through precision, repetition, and meditative process, Nasseri transforms geometry into an aesthetic and conceptual experience.
