A MARBLE CINERARY URN INSCRIB⭕ED FOR LUCIUS VERSENUS PAULINUS, 1ST/2ND CENTURY A.D.
of cylindrical form, carved with strigillations flanking a tabula ansata engraved with three lines of Latin inscriptions reading D(is) M(anibus) / L(uci) Verseni / Paulini ("To the spirits of the🔯 Departed of Lucius Versenus Paulinus,") the splayed lid ornamented with overlaꦐpping pointed leaves radiating from a baluster finial.
Height with lid 48; without lid 31.5 cm.
found in Nazza🌳zo in December 1807 by Matte🌃o Cruciani, "in the wooded area called "Monte Mancino"
recorded in Terracina꧑ before 1884 by Marie René de la Blanchère, in the gardens of t✨he Antonelli family
