DUDINTSEV, VLADIMIR
Not By Bread Alone (trans. Edith Bone). New York: E. P. Dutton, 1957
A se🅷t of reader's galley proof♚s (approx. 163 leaves, ca. 25 x 7 1/4 in.; 635 x 185 mm) and the publisher's working copy (approximately 298 leaves, 11 x 8 1/2; 280 x 215, mounted with trimmed portions of galley proofs) of the first English-language edition of Dudintsev's novel, both heavily annotated with copy-editing, proofreading, and printer's marks. Housed in separate chemises in a red-cloth slipcase.
Two sets of proofs for the first English-language edition of Vladimir Dudintsev's Not by Bread Alone, the most important work of Soviet literature from the Khrushchev Thaw, apart from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, which was also first published in English by Elliott Macrae of E. P. Dutton. D🐷udintsev's novel sparked one of the first open political debates during destalinization and helped expose the gap between the Sov𝐆iet government and the Soviet people.
