The Roman based gem engraver Niccolo Morelli was patronised by Napoleon and members of the Imperial family. According to Forrer (op. cit. p. 147) the gem engraver Giovanni Pistrucci was apprenti𝔍ced to him. Morelli's gems were used by the jewellers Castellani.
