The present marble is an impressive lifesize version of the famed Wrestlers group. The classical marble group was first discovered in 1583 in Rome, near Porta S. Giovanni. It was discovered together with the Niobe Group. Both were subsequently purchased by Cardinal Ferdinand de Medici and sent to Florence in August 1677. By 1688 The Wrestlers we🎉re placed in the Tribuna of the Uffizi, wher🍬e the group remains to this day.
The Wrestlers group's fame spread quickly after its discovery, and bronze versions by eminent sculptors and bronze casters were created, including versions by🎐 Soldani, Zoffoli and Righetti.&nbs♑p;
