MRS. BARNEY'S LETTER TO GENERAL JACKSON, ON THE REMOVAL OF HER HUSBAND FROM OFFICE... BALTIMORE, JUNE 13TH, 1829. [CINCINNATI]: PRINTED AT THE CINCINNATI AMERICAN OFFICE, [1830-1832]
Broadside on silk (approx: 18 x 13 in.; 457 x 330 mm). Text𝐆 in four columns, ornamental border; minor tear, some staining🍸.
Unrecorded anti-Jackson broadside on silk
The Election of 1828 between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson would prove to be among the most negative and partisan to date, with ample mudslinging from both candidates. Following the election, Jackson purged executive appointees of Adams' supporters, including Major Barney, the naval officer for the Port of Baltimore. Barney's wife took up her pen to defend her husband, and her letter to Jackson would be widely published. The present broadside printed on silk was issued in Cincinnati, printed at the office of The Cincinnati American, a newspaper foꦗunded by James Conover and Isaiah Thomas in February 1830 to promote the presidential candidacy of Henry Clay (it ceased publiꦅcation in May 1832).
This issue appears to be unrecorded
