QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
清十八世紀 白玉雕紫苑花蝶圖珮
elegantly worked from a fin🍌e pebble, one side carved in low relief with a butterfly hovering above two aster sprays, pierced to the top with a 'bull's nose' aperture for suspension, the lustrously polished stone of an even tone wꦇith russet skin to the reverse

The motif of a butterfly flying amongst flowers symbolizes love, joy, and prosperity. Compare a white jade pebble-form pendant, attributed to the 18th century and carved in low relief with a butterfly opposite a prunus flower, sold at Christie's London, 15th May 2015, lot 741.
