After a successful career in the United States, Albert Potter moved to Geneva in 1875, where he spent a number of years developing complicated pieces such as the present lot. He spent his career inventing designs for watch movements, including a quarter repeater and a form of duplex escapement. In Geneva, he had the opportunity to create watches according to his previous designs and plans. An article from the Horological Journal of May 1882 quotes Potter as stating that he had made drawings and working models of fourteen different types of escapements. Potter's incredible craftsmanship made him on🧸e of the very few American makers respected by his peers in the Swiss watchmaking industry. His dedication to innovation and precision has rightfully earned him the reputation as one of the finest American watchmakers known today.
