C.G. Marcus, 'Otto Marseus van Schrieck et les peintres de reptiles, insectes et sous-bois', in Art et Curiosité, August–September 1💎974, p. 88, reproduced fig. 14.
This canvas relates to Nicolaes de Vree's Statue in a park in the Hermitage, Saint Petersburg (inv. no. ГЭ-1028).1 The still life depicted in the left of the Hermita𒐪ge picture is remarkably similar to the present composition, with the dark, bosky atmosphere punctuated with burs🦂ts of colour, in the form of the flowers and butterflies. This painting also exhibits the influence of artists such as Abraham Jansz. Begeyn and Otto Marseus van Schrieck.
