This highly finished drawing is rare within Lawrence’s oeuvre on account of its subject and large scale. The work descended within the family of Richard, 1^st Lord Houghton until 2015, whereupon it was sold by the executoꦓrs of Ma🧸ry, Duchess of Roxburghe (1915-2014), along with much of the contents of her maternal family home, West Horsley Place in Surrey.
