each boldly embossed with profile heads of Roman Emperors in oval frames divided by large martial trophies,✱ all repeated on the domed covers, ball feet and finials

one engraved with initials F U and with Austrian control mark for 1806-7, from the assay office of Klagenfurt,the other with a pricked scratch weight, both marked on bases and covers with maker’s mark and city mark

These larger than usual Beakers are possibly part of a set of four showing the twelve Emperors. The present two have sequential emperors as follows: on one, Galba, ruled 68-69 AD, Otho, ruled January 69-April 69 AD and Aulus Vittellius, ruled July-December 69 AD. On the other, Vespasian, ruled 69-79 AD, Titus, ruled 79-81 AD and Domitian, ruled 81-96 AD.
