Containing the text of the first state constitution of Mississippi, as adopted on 15 August, 1817. The volume opens with a salutation from Governor Holmes: "Sir, | I have the honor to transmit to you a copy of the constitution of the state of Mississippi, which has been compared with the original roll filed in the office of the secretary of state. | I have the honor to be, | With great respect, Sir, | Your obedient servant, | David Holmes, | Governor of the state of Mississippi."
Following the text of the constitution is a note: "The names of the Convention appear to have been affixed, but the copy is so obliterated in the Mail, as to render the signatures illegible."
