Chuikov's 'window frame' series with images drawn on them is one of his most famous, an exploration of the collision of reality and fiction – a constant source of friction in the Soviet Union. 'It was in the late 1970s, when I was already making windows. I had about thirty of them, and I had other works too, but the main thing was those windows, people knew me by those windows'. Four of Chuikov's paintings were included in Sotheby’s Moscow sale in 1988.
