Description
Einstein, Albert
Typed letter signed to Dr. Franklin Miller, Princeton, New Jersey, February 23, 1945
1 page (8 x 10 1/4 in) signed "A. Einstein", in English, on blind🐎-stamped letterhead stationary; creases where previously folded.
Miller was a physicist who co-founded the International Society for Social Responsibility in Science, which advocated for scientists to use their training for the good of humanity. Einstein was a member of the organization. He writes to Miller about his experiences living in both Switzerland and Cze𒅌choslovakia:
"I observed myself that the people in Czecho-Slovackia were much better developed that the people in Switzerland. And I was convinced that this was due to the more primitive living-conditions. I wonder whether the relevant factors are already recognized. I believe that a good deal of our deterioration may be due to the fact that natural selection is to a great extent prevented by the progress of medicine."
