Four years after the first Cartier Tank came into existence it was followed by the Tank Cintrée in 1921, which combined the ergonomic curved case profile of the Tonneau and the more modern brancards of the Tank, which drew inspiration from the early armored vehicles seen on the fronts of the First World War.

Under the creative control of Jacques Cartier, London became the most subversive and mold breaking of the three Cartier locations (London, Paris & New York). Fielding larger case sizes and designs which ran against the grain of the norm of watchmaking culture for the era.

The present watch is the larger version of the Cintrée produced in London, it features certain design cues championed by the London manufacture, such as the notable absence of a rail road minute track, allowing for a less regimented and unstructured dial layout with exaggerated and exploded Roman numerals.

The assay marks on the case back interior refer to those from London in 1975 and feature the makers mark “JC” for Jacques Cartier. The case maintains incredibly strong proportions and strong deep edges to the assay marks on the left case band, which suggest little signs of polishing. Additionally, the dial has the matching case number 1132 etched onto the reverse of the dial plate, commonly found among Cartier of the period.
