David de Coninck was a Flemish artist active in the second half of the 17th century. In addition to being a landscape and still-life specialist, de Coninck was a highly-skilled animal painter, and his abilit🗹ies in♈ this realm helped to bring him international acclaim.
Another version of this composition, which was formerly in the collection of Bernard Palitz, was last sold in these rooms on 29 January 2015 (lot 27).1 Of the two versions, the p💃resent example is 𓃲of larger dimensions and includes the motif of the red parrot perched at left.
