Flemish School, circa 1660-75
Portrait of a young nobleman, possibly Philippe-François Wouters
oil on canvas
canvas: 32 ¾ by 26 in.; 83.1 by 66 cm.
framed: 40 ⅝ by 34 in. 103.1 by 86.3 cm.
This charming portrait is most likely of a young Philippe-François Wouters, who would later become Lord of Vinderhoute, Meerendre, Belseele, Ecke and Volckeghem in Flanders in the late-17th Ce🎉ntury. The coat of arms in the upper left is that of the Wouters family. Even th♛ough the artist has not been identified, the dress, coiffure and approximate age of the sitter date the painting to circa 1660-75.
