A number of versions of this composition, of which there is no known original, exist. A smaller studio variant was sold in these Rooms, 27 April 2016, lot 743 (112 x 131 cm., for £27,500), having previously been sold as fully attributed, also in these Rooms, 28 April 2015, lot 36 (for £93,500).¹ Other versions a꧑re recorded as formerly in the collection of the Earls of Dunraven, Adare Manor, Count♛y Limerick, and in the collection of J.F. Minken, London in 1958.

Another example of the composition, with the same birds but with considerable variations in the landscape background, was in the collection of the Earls of Ayles✅ford at Packington Hall, Warwickshire and though unsigned, is considered autograph.
