An extr🥃emely rare Meissen Kakiemon toilet box anꦇd cover on stand, Circa 1730


after a Japanese lacquer prototype, the cover of the cinquefoil box decorated in enamels and gilding with a figural scene from The Tale of Genji, depicting a noblewoman and her lady-in-waiting beside a standing figure and before two seated onlookers, between chrysanthemum issuing from rockwork and pine branches beneath clouds within a gilt-edged moulded rim, raised on a conforming gilt-heightened table-form stand with five cabriole legs, the sides of the box and the stand scattered with sprigs of Kakiemon flowers, crossed swords marks in blue enamel, the stand impressed four times with Dreher's mark of a cross in a circle.

Dr.🐷 Fritz Mannheimer (1890-1939), Amsterdam & Paris, inv. no. Por. 237 (ac𒅌quired between 1936 and 1939);

Dienststelle Mühlmann, Th🍨e Hague (acquired 💞from the Estate of the above in 1941 on behalf of the Sonderauftrag Linz for the proposed Führermuseum);

On deposit at Kloster Stift Hohenfurth;

On deposit at Salzbergwerk Bad Aussee;

Recovered from the abov❀e by Allied Monuments Officers and transferred to the Central Collecting Point Munich (MCCP inv. no. 2294/2);

Repatriated from the above to🎀 Holland between 1945 and 1949;

Loan🤪ed by the Dutch State to the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam in 1🦩952 and transferred to the museum in 1960;

Rest𒁏ituted by the above to the heirs of Margarethe and Franz🧔 Oppenheimer in 2021
