with the initial 'A' set with seed pearls, upon an onyx cabochon, with portrait miniature of Princess Alice of the United Kingdom verso, the reverse inscribed From Mama VRI 7th April 1879
Commissioned by Queen Victoria (1819–1901);
Possibly given by Queen Victoria to her youngest son Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany (1853-1884) on his 26th birthday in remembrance of h𝓰is late sister Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse;
His nephew, Ernest Louis Grand D✱uke of Hesse (1892-1918🥂);
His son Louis, Prince of Hesse and by Rhine (1908-1968🍨);
His wife M༒argaret, Princess of Hesse and by Rhine (1913-1997), known in the family as 'Peg of Hesse';
Thence by descent.
