Anonymous sale, Amsterdam, Christie's, 16 November 2005, lot 94 (as attributed to Jacob van Huchtenburg).
During his short career, Haarlem painter Jacob van Huchtenburg travelled to Italy, where he was inspired to paint capricci. In this painting, Van Huchtenburg shows figures resting and conversing by the pyramid of Gaius Cestius and among other Roman monuments. The influence of his compatriot, Nicolaes Berchem, can be seen in the staffage and in his use of light.
