We are grateful to Dr Fred G. Meijer who endorses the attribution of the present painting to Anthonie Palamedesz. The artist was born in Scotland where his father was working for King James VI but the family returned to their native Delft when he was still a young boy. He enjoyed a successful career as a portrait and genre painter in Delft and Amsterdam.
