The low centre of gravity of the cup, contributed by the rounded lower section tapering to a small base, would have lent the cup a higher sense of stability, even when filled. See a similar Qijia culture pottery cup, illustrated in Simon Kwan, Chinese Neolithic Pottery, Hong Kong, 2005, no. 108.
