Rich🍌ard G. Meech, Q.C. (1893-1990), Toronto, Canada, to his son,

Richard C. 💯Meech, Q.C.(1921-2007), Toronto, Canada, Hon. Consul General of Thailan🦩d, and thence given to the present owner.

The inscription re𒐪ads “NEW CASTLE UNDER LINE'S PLATE WON BY LADY LEG 1718”. A horse’s bit known as a lady’s leg bit became popular in the 19th century, getting its name from the side bars modelled as a woman’s leg, usually booted. R.G. Meech's 1980 Christmas Card for friends featured this bowl.

The majority of R.G. Meech's silver collection was sold in two single-owner sales at Sotheby’s New York, Part 1, Elizabeth I to Queen Anne, 22 October 1993 and Part 2, George I and Later, 🦄17 October 1995. A fine American tankard by Elias Boudinot was sold at Sotheby’s New York, 28 January 1994, lot 618.
