A Pair of George III Silver Candlesticks with Royal Naval Presentation Inscriptions, Henry Hallsworth, London, 1776
on square bases with beaded borders, the circular wills rising to partly fluted baluster stems topped by circular shoulders chased with leaves, banded campana form sconces, bases and detachable nozzles engraved with the Royal Badge, base rims engraved "At the Launch of his MAJESTY'S Sloop FLY of 14 Guns & 300 Tons the 14th Sepr. 1776. Built by Mr. GEO. WHITE of Sheerness", marked on bases and nozzles, undersides engraved with weights 20 = 14 1/2 , 21 = 9 1/2

The sloop HMS Fly was ordered on 1 August 1775, built by George White of the Sheerness Dockyard to a design by Sir John Williams. Her keel was laid in January 1776, and she was completed in October of that year. At a length 96 ft 7 in. Fly was primarily used as an escort during the French Revolutionary Wars, yet was responsible for the capture of three privateer🃏s during her tenure. On September 17, 1801 she sailed from Portsmouth to escort a convo♔y headed for Newfoundland. In January 1802 she floundered and was lost with all hands off Cape Flattery, Newfoundland.
