An Early Meissen (M.P.M) Octagonal Sugar Box and Cover, Circa 1722-23
painted on the front and reverse of the box with boats on the water or an estuary scene, within Böttger lustre, iron-red and gilt foliate scrollwork-edged shaped quatrefoil cartouches, the sides with branches of indianische Blumen in iron-red, the cover with a classical arched portico at the water's edge, within an iron-red border reserving panels of coloured indianische Blumen, gilt-edged rims, M.P.M mark in underglaze-blue

Sotheby's Scientific Research department used no✱ninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chro𝔉mium, which was not detected.
