Fitzgerald, F. Scott
Tender is the Night. New York: Scribner's, 1934
8vo. Stray spots and fingersoiling, leaves lightly toned. Original gilt-stamped green cloth in🧸 illustrated dust jacket depicting a Riviera scene, with Eliot and Mencken blurbs; spine panel sunned, with tiny nicks and some ༒creasing at head and tail. Folding case.
First edition.
"... flashes of genius by an expert in self-destruction, ... the predicament of grace under pressure from too many parties and too much money" (Con🅠nolly)
Only 15,000 copies comprised the first three printings and th😼e royalties earned failed to pay off Fitzgerald's debt to his publisher. Its undeserved failure was to accelerate the author's downward spiral.
