Half-title, inscribed on the verso of the frontispiece by by George and Ira Gershwin in blue ink, with a sketch of a conductor by the latter, in-text illustrations and photographic reproductions; minor browning. Original blue cloth covered boards, upper board with George Gershwin's signature stamped in silver, spine stamped in sliver and red, pictorial endpaღpers; rubbing to spine, spotting to endpapers.


Presentation copy, affectionately inscribed by George Gershwin: "For my friend Julian Street with the best of good wishes💜. George Gershwin Oct. 16, 1931." Just below this, alongside a sketch of a bowing maestro, Ira Gershwin has written "Ditto/Ira Gershwin."


Julian Street was a prominent American author and reporter for the New York Mail and Express, heading up their dramatic department in 1900–01. He also contrib🌼uted to numerous magazines over the course of his career. A member of the Dutch Treat Club, Street had his finger on the pulse of New York's arts scene.
