Manuscript document 🦄signed by John D. Woalfin reporting the death of Day at the Alamo


One page (180 x 180 mm), Gonzales, 28 May 1840, witnessed by Edmund Billinger, Ch꧅ief Justice of Gonzales County, docketed on verso "Woalfin's affidavit"; lower margin ragged, old folds, slight separations at folds, lightly browned.


"Day reached San Antonio and fell in the Alamo.&nb🌊sp;…" An affidavit confirming the death Alamo defender Freeman H. K. Day: "John D. Woalfin on oath says that Freeman H.K. Day left Nacogdoches for San Antonio and never returned and that from report he believes and has good reason to believe that the said Day reached San Antonio and fell in the Alamo and he further says that the said Day was nor🌱mally called by his companions Freeman."


Day took part in the Siege of Béxar and later serve🦋d in the Alamo garrison as a member of Capt. Robert White’s Infantry company, the Béxar Guards; he was killed in action during the battle of the Alamo, 6 March 1836. This document was likely written for Day's family.
