This large ivory group of Prometheus bound and the Oceanids was carved 𒁃after the life size marble by Eduard Müller (1828-1895) at the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin.
The ancient Greek myth tells how Prometheus was punished by the Gods for bringing fire to humanity. Comforted only by the Oceanids, daught༺ers of Titan, he was bound to rocks and tortured by a daily visit from an eagle who pecked at his liver.
