It is rare to find a sancai-glazed equestrian preserved in such good condition, with detailed intricate modeling of the trappings on the horse's face, and with such a pronounced naturalistic expression on the rider's face. The combination of chestnut-brown, amber, camellia-leaf green and opulent imported cobalt-blue is also rare to find, indicating the high status of the individual for whom it was made.
