A striking moment of grace in Liu Xiaodong’s oeuvre, Young Girl Leisurely Reading (1993) is a tender example of the artist’s approach to Neo-Realism. Young Girl Leisurely Reading wonderfully displays Liu’s painstaking attention to detail, particularly in the girl’s ruffled white blouse and blue ribbon detail, whilst capturing theꦛ listless expression that was typical of Liu’s subjects.
