Landseer endlessly sketched sporting activities and wildlife, as well ღas people who lived and worked in the Highlands. They formed the basis for the lively paintings of Scottish subjects which found a ready market with his patrons, including the Dukes of Northumberland, Bedford, Atholl, Gordon and Wellington, all of whom commissioned Scottish subjects from the artist in the 1820s and 1830s.
The present sheet, as with lot 198, o🔴nce belonged꧟ to Landseer's friend Frederick Richard Lee, R.A..
