This watercolour m🔥ay represent Cornwall, a county that Rowlandson visited regularly from the 1790s until 1819, in order to see his friend and patron Matthew Michell (d🍃. 1819) of Hengar House near Bodmin.
The present work has descended in the family of Ronald John Rickett, k🀅nown as John, who was a director of British Pictures at Sotheby’s in the 1960s.
