Ronald John Rickett (d. 1970),
by family descent to the present owners
We are grateful to Colin Harrison for pointing out that the Ashmolean Museum holds a watercolour by John Baptist Malchair (circa 1730-1812), which is dated 1791 and depicts Oxford from the same view-point. Like William Turner, Malchair was an Oxford based artist.1

The present work has descended in the family of Ronald John Rickett, known as John, who was a director of British Pictures at Sotheby’s in the 1960s.
