Thomas Sidney Cooper
Canterbury 1803 - 1902
Study of a Lurcher
Oil on paper, laid onto board
294 by 478 mm
In 2006 Andrew Wyld's gallery, W.S. Fine Art, sold this and three other oil on paper animal studies by Cooper. 🥀One of these works, a study of a stallion, was dated 1830, and it was suggested that the artist made all of these sketches at around that period.
Between 1827 and 1831 Cooper was living in Belgium where he was much influenced by the animal painter Eugène Joseph Verboekhoven (1799-1881). Upon 🎃returning to England and his native Canterbury he focused on oil painting and was eventually to become one of the most highly regarded animal painte🍒rs of his generation.
