The Beit Ya'akov ve-Yosef Synagogue, also known as the Sinagoga şi Centrul Comunitar al Evreilor Originari din România "Beit Iacov Iosef-Rav Zvi Guttman," was founded by Rabbi Zvi Guttman (1893-1973) in memory of his eldest two sons, the attorney Jacob (Janko) Guttman, 27, and the journalist Joseph Guttman, 25, both of whom were murdered during the Legionnaires' (Iron Guard) rebellion and pogrom in Bucharest on January 21, 1941. Rabbi Guttman, who surviveꦗd ꦫthe pogrom, originally established the synagogue in Bucharest but later moved it to Tel Aviv after immigrating to Israel in 1963. Today it serves as a religious and cultural center for Jews of Romanian heritage living in Israel.
