FIRST EDITION, folio (375 x 235mm.), engraved additional title, printed title in red and black, numerous woodcut illustrations, later half calf, engraved additional title chipped with slight loss, some leaves browned, last leaves strengthened at margin
William Salmon, M.D. (1644-1712) published various works on medicine, astrology, and other subjects. His🐷 Herbal was intended for the use of "Physicians, Chyrurgians, and Apothecaries" (Preface). This herbal includes the first known reference of the tomato's cultivation in North America, when Salmon mentions his travelsღ in what is now the Carolinas. The woodcut figures of plants are apparently original.
