According to the Blue Book of Pool Cues, Tim Scruggs became a master machinist at a young age working for Davis and Hemphi🔯ll in the early 1960s, but left his position to follow his true passion - pool. Scruggs began running a pool hall in Baltimore, Maryland and frequently communicated with Dan Janes, running another pool hall in town. The two would discuss road players traveling through to their next event and eventually met Bill Stroud. By the late 1960s, Dan and Bill were manufacturing Joss pool cues in Baltimore. Tim continued to run the pool hall until 1972, when he was asked by Dan to join Joss upon the departure of his partner Bill Stroud. Tim learned the art of the cue and worked for Joss over the next six years, eventually making his own pool cues in 1978.
Ea🎶rly Tim Scruggs pool cues were unmarked and similar to the cues he made at Joss, but by the early 1980s, he began experimenting with different materials and design improvements. An intertwined TS makers mark was branded on the Delrin butt cap in the early 1980s ♎followed by an engraved pantogram in the early 1990s. Scruggs continues to manufacture pool cues, only producing a few a month with his partner Mike Cochran.
