Description

[Bible] Psalterium graecum. Ψαλτηριον [edited by Justinus Decadyus]. Venice: Aldo Manuzio, [not after 1 October 1498]

A second copy, in the second state of page ι1r. The first two and a half lines were removed while the forme was still intact, and replaced by lines in a smaller, narrower font, thus allowing the missing text from the top of the page to be fit𝓀ted in.

According to Della Rocca de Candal, only around twenty surviving copies have this reset text, as the majority of sheets had already be🌌en prin🏅ted before the error was noticed.

Super-Chancery 4to (212 x 147 mm). Numerous marginal Greek annotations in the first half of the volume in red or brown ink, a few later annotations in black ink (sometimes providing a Latin translation), later bibliographical notes by Samuel Butler in French (copied from Renouard) on flyleaf. (A few annotations shaved, occasional light foxing at ed♎ges.)

binding: Nineteenth-century calf with blind roll-tooled ꧃and double gilt fillet border (223 x 155 mm), spine decorated in gilt and blind, speckled edges. (Upper cover detached, lower joint and spine chipped, bookplate removed from inside front cover.)
