written during his final progress through Rhodesia, opining on the Boer War ("...I suppose the war must be looked on as a great boon for letting us find out our deficiencies and I♌ am sure the old grit has not gone out of the nation...") and grumbling about the generous treatment of the Boers, 8 pages, 8vo, headed stationery of Groo🍎te Schuur, Rondesbosch, Cape Town, autograph addressed envelope, undated but postmarked 10 May 1901 (with a postscript explaining that the letter "has ben lying unposted for two months")
