For comparison, please see the cinnabar lacquered gold case from the collection of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna which sold, Sotheby's London, 30 November 2009, lot 18. Of the same form as the Maria Pavlovna case, the present lot translates traditional 18th century French lacquering techniques into enamel.
