The present lot stands as a testament to Rolex's ingenuity during the mid-20th century, representing one of the most complicated models ever produced by the renowned brand. Rolex has never been known f♔or making highly complicated watches and is mostly known for its tool watches, however, they did a few ventures into the domain of intricate complications. To this effect, in vintage horology, only three🐻 such models are known to exist: the esteemed Killy line, the triple calendar/moonphase line (ref. 6062 and 8171), and the split seconds model 4113.

We are pleased to offer this timepiece that is part of the esteemed lineage of Dato-Compax wristwatches crafted by Rolex. Launched in 1947, the reference 4767 marked a significant milestone, as it was Rolex's first Dato-Compax wristwatch housed within a water-resistant Oyster case. Rolex introduced a total of five distinct Oyster Dato-Compax variations: references 4767, 4768, 5036, 6036, and 6236, all affectionately referred to as 'Jean-Claude Killy' models, nicknamed a🍌fter the famous French three time Olympic champion skier who was spotted wearing a Dato-Compax. These models were crafted in yellow and pink gold, as well as stainless steel.

Produced fo🌟r four years, scholars believe that no more thaꦿn 200 examples of the 4767 were made in stainless steel.
