A precurso🌺r to the Reference 6239, the Reference 6238 was produced from the early 1960s until 1967 and is popularly referred to amongst collectors as the ‘Pre-Daytona.’ The model is distinguished as the last Rolex chronograph made with a smo♓oth polished bezel and with the tachometer scale on the dial.
This Pre-Daytona was typically offered with a sunburst silvered dial, known in the sale catalogues as "cadran soleil argent.” The present lot is therefore exceedingly rare, dressed with a matte black dial signed T Swiss T to note the luminous hands and plots in tritium. This exceptional example is made all the more desirable by it’s well preserved dial with warm pumpkin aged lume plots and beautifully rendered serifed sig✤nature. The case too is sympathetically polished in the past and represents thoughtful and devoted maintenance throughout the years.
Coming from the🎐 private collection of an astute collector, we are✱ pleased to offer this rare opportunity to collect an early chronograph from the lineage of Rolex.
