Vases of this t🍰ype, with an elegant, slender neck, are extremely rare and epitomise the mastery of porcelain production attained during the Song dynasty. The elegantౠ bottle form, with a pear-shaped body and expertly formed tall neck, was popular with several northern kilns at this period.
See a Dingyao bottle with a slightly everted rim in the Idemitsu Museum of Art, Tokyo, and published in Chinese Ceramics in the Idemitsu Collection, Tokyo, 1987, col. pl. 84, was 🍰sold in our London rooms, 6th July 1971, lot 64, and again at Christie's Tokyo, 17th February 1980, lot 741. Compare also a slightly shorter Jꦕin dynasty vase with a wider flared rim, formerly from the collection of George Eumorfopoulous and now in the British Museum, accession no. 1936,1012.26.
