The reserve is carved with verses from the Qiusheng fu by Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072) and s♏igned by Zigang, which may be translated as:

The stars and moon shine bright,

The river glows in celestial light,

Silent surroundings, no soul in sight,

But a sound echoes within the trees' height.

I say, "Oh, alas, how sorrowful,

This sound of autumn, so mournful,

Why does it come, what purpose to fulfill?"

銘文： 星月皎潔，明河在天，四無人聲，聲在樹間，予曰，噫嘻悲哉，此秋聲也，胡爲而來哉。署款子岡。
