First Aldine edition; the bilingual issue with Greek and Latin text.
8vo (164 x 100 mm, preserving deckle on several lower edges). Greek and italic types, 30 lines plus headline. collation:
π4 Α-Λ8 Μ4 1-118 1210: 194 leaves (π3,4 blank). Woodcut Aldine device on title-page and 12 10v, numerous 3-, 6-, and 7-line initial spaces with guide-letters. (Some staining and soiling, especially to upper fore-edge corners of first four quires, small wormtrail at lower inner margins of Β-Η never clo🔴se to text, scattered marginal foxing.)
binding: Sixteenth-century Italian brown goatskin (171 x 112 mm), covers paneled in blind with repeated gilt tendril and flower tool within the frame formed by blind fillets, central compartment with row of trefoils above and below, ivy leaves at inner corners, central roundel on front cover composed of two gilt fillets enclosing gilt-lettered title HE | RODI | ANV | S, central com꧟partment on lower cover with arabesque tool tête-bêche, spine in four compartments diapered with blind rules, traces of four pairs of fabric ties, plain endpapers, edges gilt and gauffered to a knotwork design. (Corners and joints neatly restored, much gilding rubbed away.)
